Nickelodeon is kicking up the Black Girl Magic with their new animated series Made by Maddie. The new series featuring 8 year old Maddie, mom (Dee) and Dad (Rashad) is set to premiere on September 13th. I am so excited for an animated series to come to this network and feature a black family while also focusing on family, friendship & imagination. The show is also set in the best city in the world (don’t debate me), New York City! We have been tuning into Nick Jr’s programming a lot recently (Paw Patrol anyone?) and I can’t wait to check this show out! Here is the preview Nickelodeon posted to Twitter:
About Made by Maddie
Maddie (Alyssa Cheatham) is a quick-thinking little girl with a big personality and a huge heart, who has a passion for fashion. She finds design inspiration around every corner and her big ideas couldn’t become a reality without the love and support of her aspirational and talented fashion designer mom, Dee (Patina Miller), and her super cool and upbeat musician dad, Rashad (James Monroe Iglehart), along with the assistance of friends and neighbors, including her kind, animal-loving best friend Jada (Sophia Torres) and the twins — rule-following Harper (Amanda Dressel) and fearless Hudson (Ames McNamara) — who are always up for adventure. Maddie’s creative thinking and dazzling designs are a reflection of the bustling, colorful city of New York and its residents. Maddie confidently embraces her own unique style, celebrates individuality, treats everyone with kindness, and encourages others to take risks and be themselves.
Made by Maddie premieres Sunday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. (ET/PT) on the Nick Jr. channel. The series will also be available on the Nick Jr. app, NickJr.com and Nick Jr. on-demand.

Nickelodeon has a lot to learn about representation.
I won’t let my daughter watch Paw Patrol.
It features 3 boy dogs, and oh wait, there’s that smaller girl dog who dresses in stereotypical pink and shows up in the background in the cover art. Now how does that make impressionable girls feel about whether they are actually part of the team?
