I FINALLY got to see Spies in Disguise. And I know what you’re thinking, the movie just released a few days ago on Christmas Day. But I feel like everybody and their mama got to see it in an advanced screening (especially if you were at The Geekly Retreat). Some of my friends have even seen it twice already! So when I knew we had no solid plans this year for Christmas Day, Spies in Disguise became THE plan. After all, my kids have never been the type to object to a movie. So now I am hype to finally be writing my full review!
About Spies in Disguise
Super spy Lance Sterling and scientist Walter Beckett are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can’t learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril.

A: Sleepy night night!
Q: Did you learn anything from the movie?

My Thoughts on Spies in Disguise
I went into this movie already expecting to enjoy it. Will Smith and Tom Holland felt like the perfect combination before I even got to “see them together”. I ended up loving the movie! This was so much more than your typical spy movie. Spies in Disguise is chock full of lessons on kindness, being yourself, teamwork and healing. Obviously some of the deeper themes will go over your younger kids heads but that doesn’t stop it from being a film the whole family will enjoy.
Don’t believe me? The above mentioned butt quote was the first time I’ve heard my 2 year old verbally talk to the screen at the movies (ewwww, thats nasty!). The movie even held HIS attention and if you have a 2 year old you know that is dang near impossible. There are laughs, lessons and enough action for the whole family to enjoy. If you are looking for an action packed, typical spy movie that includes fighting and violence then you should skip this one. If you can go into this with an open mind and the expectation of getting something COMPLETELY different but still amazing, you’re going to love it.
There are still plenty of days of winter break left. Will you be heading to the theaters to check out Spies in Disguise?
