8 Fun Ways to Spend A Rainy Day with Kids in NYC

Spring is finally almost here and I am ready for the warmer weather. Spring isn’t exactly my favorite season, but it’s a tie between second and third because its always freaking raining. As a mama of two under 5 (whew!) I am constantly looking for rainy day activities to keep those two little boys entertained. I’ve come up with a couple of different ways we like to spend our rainy days in the city.

Museums

I still think the boys are kind of young for “big” museums, and at 4 and 1 they have absolutely no indoor voices. We tend to stick to children museums (Brooklyn is our favorite) or pop ups that are kid friendly. The boys loved the Museum of Pizza and i had an amazing time at Mickey the True Original. Places that are kid friendly and interactive are always at the top of our lists.

Trampoline Parks

I know I’ve included this in a few other posts, but trampoline parks are a great way for everyone to burn energy. We’ve been to all of them, SkyZone, Bounce! and just recently Launch in Queens, NY. An hour of jumping may not SEEM like a lot but have you ever jumped for an hour straight?! Tiring! It’s so much fun. And Launch has A LOT to do besides just jumping.

Movies

This may seem like a basic option but y’all the movies has evolved so much. AMC has Dine-In theaters with reclining chairs (which technically is in Long Island, but its not TOO far to drive). NYC also has iPic theaters, which also features in theater dining, a lounge and cocktails! You can easily turn that into a half day experience!

Indoor Paintball

Ok so obviously you aren’t taking your toddlers to indoor paintball but if you want some adult time, or you have bigger kids this is definitely worth checking out! Long Island City is home to Indoor Extreme Sports Paintball & Laser tag. I’m always cold, so indoor paintball is definitely something I can work with!

Cooking Classes

I’ll admit, we haven’t tried this yet but this is on my list to try soon with RJ. There are tons of places that offer kids cooking classes in the city. Taste Buds Kitchen offers cooking classes for kids as young as 4 years old. Cooking is not my forte so the more people that I can get to chef it up in my house, the better!

Head to the Spa

Kids need pampering too! Kids Spas are gaining popularity and I think it’s a pretty cool concept. Milk and Cookies kids spa is the one I hear about most often, but the boys and I haven’t been yet. They offer services for EVERYONE so don’t think only the little ladies can head there. Check out this post by my friend Sanaa to see her and her daughter’s experience at the spa.

Pip’s Island

Pip’s Island is an interactive theater experience for kids starting at age 4. It is a completely immersive experience that gives kids a chance to be a part of the story. Puppets, theater and immersion are all key components to a good time! Dubbed an interactive theatrical adventure, Pip’s Island should definitely be on your list for rainy day activities.

Skating

Between ice and roller skating, NYC has plenty of indoor rinks. Chelsea Piers is one of the most popular locations, but Brooklyn Bridge Park has an enclosed roller skating type situation going on that was definitely fun and with checking out.
