You guys know, I have been hype about the release of this movie since it was announced. When everyone else’s faith wavered with the first trailer, I still held out faith. Last night I attended an advanced screening of Aladdin and my faith was confirmed. The movie was every bit of magic that I was prepared for it to be and more. It definitely differed from the animated version, but the difference did not make it bad. I completely fell in love with Aladdin in an all new way and that is exactly what I hoped for. So is Aladdin appropriate for young children? I’m about to give you all the (spoiler free) details.

What is Aladdin about?

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.

How long is Aladdin?

The run time for Aladdin is 2 hours and 8 minutes. It’s a little on the long side for younger kids, but it held my attention the entire time. I honestly had no idea it was that long until I looked it up to write this post. The movie goes by quickly and if you love the animated version of Aladdin, then you definitely won’t notice the time difference.

Are there any parts of the movie I should worry about?

Seeing the movie in live action was completely different than the animated version. If you know the movie, then you know what happens towards the end. In live action I know my oldest baby ( 4 1/2) could not have handled it. It definitely feels darker than the animated version and I guess it’s the fact of seeing them as ACTUAL people and not cartoons. There was also a part of the movie where Aladdin is first in the palace that made almost my whole row of ADULTS jump. I would mainly be mindful towards the end of the movie.

Mana Massoud is Aladdin and Will Smith is Genie in Disney’s live-action ALADDIN, directed by Guy Ritchie.

My overall opinion about the movie?

The live action version of Aladdin definitely takes you to a whole new world. There are new songs, new characters and new personalities to love (or hate). I loved this adaptation of the film and it was definitely done with us millennial babies in mind. Did I find Aladdin appropriate for young children? My boys are definitely going to wait until it comes to dvd/blu-ray and I can deal with their reactions at home. I would say the movie is perfect for children ages 7 and up. I think the lack of animation wouldn’t hold a child’s interest if they were any younger.

Want to know how I felt about the differences between the live action version of Aladdin and the animated on? Look out for my in depth review on Friday! Are you headed to see Aladdin this weekend?

Check out this fun suite we stayed in @cartoonnetworkhotel based on one of our favorites Adventure Time!!
I was really excited for us to stay in this suite because we love this show and the theming in the room was ON POINT.
The kids loved that each of the 4 bunk beds had their own tv.
I loved that there was enough room for all of us!

The reviews online are pretty mixed but you can’t go wrong staying in one of the suites! They also have a Ben10, Powerpuff Girls, and Steven Universe suite. So which would you choose?

Thank you for hosting us @cartoonnetworkhotel!!

We spent the weekend at @cartoonnetworkhotel. Our We spent the weekend at @cartoonnetworkhotel.
Our trip didn’t go quite as planned because RJ got sick on day 1.
His stomach was pretty messed up but he still managed to get some playtime in outside with his brother and sister.
I was frustrated. I felt bad. I felt like I failed them this summer.
But rewatching these videos.. do y’all see failure? I don’t.
I can’t believe summer is coming to an end but I’m glad we got some time in this weekend.

And thank you to Cartoon Network hotel for hosting us!. More trip content coming soon! 💙✨

Throwback to my last picture pregnant with Bri Bri Throwback to my last picture pregnant with Bri Bri! Giving birth should not be a terrifying experience.

I was fortunate enough to have great medical care during my last pregnancy but as you may know, that is not the case for many Black women across the United States. Black women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women, with most of the maternal deaths being preventable. Medical bias is real and many women need an advocate whether it’s prenatal, during birth or postpartum.

Last year, @hairunruled partnered with @gerber to give two mamas monetary assistance with securing doula services. This year, they’ve upped the ante and are helping FIVE.

Having a doula significantly decreases the chances of having complications during every stage of your pregnancy journey and for many can be life saving! In addition to the sweepstakes, “Overdue, a Pregnancy Guide for Us”- is a library of 12 videos that impart the knowledge that a doula would provide to as many expectant moms as possible. You can find the link to both the giveaway and Overdue in my bio.
