A few days ago I shared a good amount of what Disney had planned for their new streaming service Disney+ set to debut this fall. Among the announcement were plans for a number of live action movies that would be available exclusively on Disney+. Plans for a live action version of classic Lady and the Tramp were announced a while ago in 2018. Disney finally gave us a first look at the Disney+ announcement event.
The cast of Lady and the Tramp is FULL of black girl magic!
Up until recently not much was known about this version of the movie. It’s reportedly a combination of live animals and CGI which should make for a pretty interesting movie. Tessa Thompson is the voice of lady, and the cast announcements have been flowing since then. In this version of the movie, Kiersey Clemons is set to play Darling, the human owner of Lady.
Also set to join the cast is Janelle Monae voicing the part of Peg, a super cute pound dog from the original movie. How awesome is it to have both Janelle and Tessa in one movie?! Too bad it’s a CGI film because I would love to see them on the “big screen” together. I’ve spoken about how representation in Disney films has made a difference before, so I am so glad to see it’s continuing into this year. The live action remakes haven’t come without controversy. Yet and still, I am so glad they are continuing to remake the classics we know and love. Not every one has been a hit, but I’m excited to see how this version plays out.
Lady and the Tramp will be available for streaming on Disney+ at the launch of the streaming service on November 12th. To stay up to date with all the latest Disney+ news, join their newsletter here.
