If you know me then you have at some point heard me profess my love for all things Harry Potter. I fell in love with the wizarding world in elementary school and I’ve been a potterhead ever since. I watch the movies every single time they’re on tv, the DVDs got me through some of my loneliest moments when I first moved back to NYC and I can read the entire series in a week without skipping a beat.
When Fantastic Beasts was first released I was hesitant. I take my love for Hogwarts seriously and I hated the idea of them trying to tell any other story that wouldn’t be a good one. But I was sooooo wrong. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was an amazing movie!! And my love expanded. When I saw the first trailer for the Crimes of Grindelwald I probably held my breath the entire time. I seriously can’t wait for this movie in November.
So in complete impatient anticipation and to connect with more fans, my friend Sanaa and I have decided to hold a weekly Twitter party to #CountdowntoGrindelwald. Starting 9/16 Each week on #WizardingWednesdays we’ll be having a discussion based on one year at Hogwarts concluding with Fantastic Beasts on the last week. We have some amazing giveaways planned and we’d love to have you join us!!
RSVP below so you can stay up to date with the Twitter party, get a sneak peek at our giveaway sponsors and #CountdowntoGrindewald with us!
Festival season is upon us and I suffer from major FOMO every year. I find that I always find out about festivals at the last minute and then I don’t have the proper time to get my life/coins together so that I can attend. After going to Curlfest for the first time last year, I’m determined to hit as many festivals as possible this year and I’ve created this list of festivals that are (mainly) on the east coast JUST so I don’t forget where I need (want) to be and when. If you love good vibes, good food and good music then you probably want to check a few of these out too! *festival names are clickable… you’re welcome ;)*
There it is! Which festivals are you most excited about? I can’t wait for Curlfest and Afropunk! Hype to go to a festival that I didnt list? Not tryna go alone and want to meet up? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. xoxo
Spring …. where you at? We got a quick peek over the weekend and then the frigidness of JANUARY was right back Sunday. I feel like the weather is a pretty accurate representation of my life right now though. I’m impatiently waiting for it to get warmer.. to feel more comfortable. And while I spend most of my days trying to crawl back under the covers and hide from the dreariness, the sun always peeks through for a few, just enough to remind me that it’s still always there.
The season is slowly but surely changing in my household. The boys are growing so much and it’s almost mind blowing sometimes to watch the change. They’re at the perfect age right now, they love each other just enough and the fighting is minimal. I have one entering toddlerhood and one exiting and that’s pretty freakin’ scary. The voice in the back of my head is constantly nagging me about whether I’m doing this motherhood thing right. I figure as long as we make it to the next day we’re pretty much scoring. LOL.
And while we have some daily setbacks, our spring is right around the corner. It’s only a matter of time before the sun is constantly shining. I can’t wait.
How are you handling the slow change of season? Are you waiting for the sun to come out? XoXo
I started blogging back in …. 2013 I think under a different name. Back then I wasn’t a mommy or even expecting but the main blogs that I read were mommy blogs because I have a weird thing about being interested in other peoples lives (anyone else addicted to Family Vlogs on YouTube?). I read a lot of lifestyle blogs but I kept finding myself being drawn to more family/parenting oriented blogs and that’s still a lot of what I read today.
When I became pregnant with RJ I searched for mommy blogs written by black women and they aren’t always as easy to find as the “other” blogs are. This really has so much to do with the fact that we aren’t supporting each other to our full capacity. Luckily, I became a part of an amazing community of women [BLM] where I connected with bloggers of ALL kinds but I still wanted to take the opportunity to put my mommy bloggers on the forefront.
If you are looking for mommy blogs written by WOC then here is a list of amazing blogs you can choose from.

Lifestyle/Family Blogs – Tips, tricks, & advice given from real moms about real life.
When it comes to getting out the house, we are sloooooooow! Like it takes HOURS for us to leave and there’s only 3 of us. I always say I admire moms with multiple children because I struggle to get just the two of us ready in a timely fashion.
So when I planned to go to the Queens Zoo the day was no different. I woke up with every intention of getting out early, and making the most of our zoo experience. #FAIL. We got to the zoo at 4:30…… it closes at 5.
Luckily for us, the zoo is in Flushing Meadows Corona Park which is HUGE. Right across from the Queens Zoo they have a small petting zoo, so we walked over there so we would still get to see some animals.
RJ was super fascinated by the animals and he didn’t wanna leave. I was so disappointed we made it too late for the zoo but it made me look forward to visiting another time. We have GOT to get our time management together!
How are you ending summer? Do you have any small zoos close to home? How can I get my life together so I’m not late for everything?! LMAO
