You probably read the title and was like girl, what?! Listen, I’ve learned from the internet it’s not just me. January literally feels like the longest month ever. We wait all this time for the new year to roll around and then the first month of the new year feels like a whole year in itself. Despite all of that, January was good to me. All 82508432 days of it. I learned some important things and I got some really great takeaways. As someone with few resolutions, self improvement is really the most important aspect of growth for me and I’m happy the first year of 2019 showed up.
Last week I went to the hair salon after work. Let me preface it by saying it was DESPERATELY needed. The natural hair struggle is real, and topped with NYC’s winter weather? My hair was feeling like STRAW. So I was definitely overdue for an appointment and I knew I needed to just go and get it done. I have scheduled hair appointments over and over again but then cancelled for one reason or another because truthfully, I feel like it takes too long and I would rather be home with my kids. But I’m trying to develop better habits this year so in my head I was all “TREAT YOURSELF TANAY! SELF CARE!”.
An article was released recently on TimeOut of the “The Best Instagram Accounts from Dad and Mommy bloggers to follow in 2019”. It was shared in a group of other bloggers that I’m in and before I even clicked it I already knew what the list was going to look like. We can make excuses and say “well they only featured 8 accounts” or “they couldn’t show everybody” and that’s fine if that’s what y’all have time for, but I don’t. In this great year of our lord and savior 2019, we have to stop asking for a seat at the table and buy, assemble and elevate our own! TimeOut’s list was cute, but that’s not my list. That’s not representative of the faces I see when I scroll my feed, and the women/men that motivate me.
We’re out here world schooling, and attachment parenting and living our best green lives just like everyone else. If anything we look up to each other even more now because our generation is parenting SO DIFFERENTLY than the ones that came before us. We’re open to learning and doing and growing. We’re just out here trying to keep out chakras aligned, glow up, create healthy coparenting relationships and manifest the best lives possible for our children.
Happy New Year! I almost can’t believe I’m sitting here with you guys in 2019! The year flew by and it was definitely, a year! Last year I made a whole list of goals, that I provably revisited once or twice when I wasn’t resharing it with you guys and that… kinda sucks. This year I am focusing on creating better habits, versus sticking to specific resolutions and I figured I’d share a couple of mine that are related to motherhood. Here are a couple things we need to remember to do for ourselves and our families this year.
If you know me then you have at some point heard me profess my love for all things Harry Potter. I fell in love with the wizarding world in elementary school and I’ve been a potterhead ever since. I watch the movies every single time they’re on tv, the DVDs got me through some of my loneliest moments when I first moved back to NYC and I can read the entire series in a week without skipping a beat.
When Fantastic Beasts was first released I was hesitant. I take my love for Hogwarts seriously and I hated the idea of them trying to tell any other story that wouldn’t be a good one. But I was sooooo wrong. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was an amazing movie!! And my love expanded. When I saw the first trailer for the Crimes of Grindelwald I probably held my breath the entire time. I seriously can’t wait for this movie in November.
So in complete impatient anticipation and to connect with more fans, my friend Sanaa and I have decided to hold a weekly Twitter party to #CountdowntoGrindelwald. Starting 9/16 Each week on #WizardingWednesdays we’ll be having a discussion based on one year at Hogwarts concluding with Fantastic Beasts on the last week. We have some amazing giveaways planned and we’d love to have you join us!!
RSVP below so you can stay up to date with the Twitter party, get a sneak peek at our giveaway sponsors and #CountdowntoGrindewald with us!
Are you excited for Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald??
We’re two weeks away from back to school here in NYC and if you’re anything like me (a procrastinator) you still have some shopping to get done. My back to school list isn’t that long because RJ is only going to pre-k and he wears uniform, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting some school supplies in the house for writing practice, and he gets to dress down once a week so he definitely needs clothes since he grew TWO sizes last school year.
It’s really important to me to support black owned businesses so of course when I started the (google) search for supplies that’s what I wanted to round up. From stationary to t-shirts, I’ve included the brands I’ve found for all you black owned back to school needs.

I feel like I’ve always been a pretty confident parent. If there is one thing that parenting has taught me it’s always been to follow my instincts and to trust my gut. I’m definitely not a perfect mom but I know that I try my hardest every single day and as long as my kids go to bed happy then I’ve succeeded.
That being said, being a mom to two toddlers… two boys… two wild little beings…. is HARD AF! When Zayn was first born, I felt like I had it pretty under control. Then he started moving…. and LORD did he start moving.
I’m convinced Zayn has “been here before”. There are some days I wonder if he was ever even a baby. He is nothing like his brother was at one year old. He’s a runner, a climber (I’ve left the room several times to come back and find him standing on the table), he can throw a tantrum that rivals the big toddlers and he knows what he wants. RJ has always been a busy body but NOTHING like Zayn. I long for silence and dread it at the same time because that usually means hes playing in the toilet. He is definitely giving me a run for my money.
All that being said I love being their mommy. I love watching them grow into their own little people and seeing how their personalities differ and how they love the same things. Motherhood is truly a journey and just when you think you have it figured out they switch up on you. I thought I had parenting pretty figured out but Zayn came to show and prove that every little person is different and they all need love in different ways.
How are your kids different? Was parenting your second child anything like your first? Lets talk in the comments! xoxo
Last week my family took their first trip to Disney World and not to sound cliche but it was MAGICAL! The boys are still young and we had a bunch of other things planned for our trip so we dedicated a day to Magic Kingdom and we got their EARLY. I think being from New York none of us were prepared for the intensity that is … the Florida HEAT. When you’re a nursing mama, that amount of heat means your baby is going to want to nurse WAY WAY more than usual and I KINDA was prepared but I just wanna give y’all a few tips so that you’re more prepared than I am.
Know The Park
With a place that is as huge as Disney that seems impossible but for real, I’m telling you… utilize those maps! It makes it so much easier when you know where you’re going, when you’re going to be stopping, and what you’re going to be doing. Everyone will be way less aggravated if you don’t feel like you’re wandering aimlessly. You can easily access maps to any of Disney’s parks HERE and you can filter it by activity, age, thrill level etc etc.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
More than you have ever hydrated before! ESPECIALLY if you aren’t used to the southern heat because neither I nor my kids were prepared. Keeping yourself hydrated will help you with milk production and you’ll be able to keep your baby hydrated. Also, if you’re nursing a toddler realize they are HOT and that is why they’re nursing like a newborn again. It’s perfectly OK to give your toddler water, they NEED it. The great thing about Disney is that there are water fountains a plenty and you can ask for a cup of water at any concession stand.
Utilize the Baby Care Centers
Each park has a Baby Care Center that is perfect for moms with little ones. Each center has an air conditioned seating area, space to nurse, pump, changing stations and any supplies that you may have forgotten when you were in a rush to leave your hotel room. These rooms are perfect for taking a break from the beautiful chaos outside and cooling off while you tend to baby. Make sure you familiarize yourself with where the centers are located in each park, and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
Ditch the Nursing Cover
Or use a very very very lightweight cover. Trust me when I say…. it’s too hot for all that. The fight to cover Zayn alone would result in us losing 20 pounds each from sweating. Nursing two kids for over a year I’ve come up with all kinds of discreet and quick ways to nurse without drawing attention to us. And honestly this far into the game, I don’t care anyway. Plus, it’s a family park. I didn’t run have that fear that anyone was going to boob-shame me out there, if anyone even noticed.
Nurse on the Go
When all else fails, when your kids are in that long line waiting to ride It’s a Small World for the 5th time in a row, when the Baby Center feels like it’s 100 miles away, when your baby JUST CANT WAIT! there are plenty of shaded areas where you can sit on a bench and peacefully nurse your little. There was plenty of seating near stroller parking areas and I nursed Zayn by a few. It wasn’t bad at all.
When the day came to an end I was super proud of my nursing experience at Disney. I didn’t once feel overwhelmed or confused and I kept things super simple. Knowledge is power so the more you know going into the parks, the better. Remembering these 5 tips could make your day 10x better!
Have you been to Disney with your nursling? What was the experience like for you?
Mitsubishi loaned this vehicle to LifewithTanay in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of trying out the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE and I’m just gonna be honest and say, I was pleasantly surprised. The very first vehicle that I drove for review purposes was the 2015 Mirage and the vehicle has definitely been upgraded since then! The feel was completely different, the trunk space was plenty and the inside still had that spacious feel despite being categorized a subcompact car.
As I was driving the Mirage I found myself asking WHO IS THIS CAR FOR?
And the simple answer I came up with is point blank: “ANY AND EVERYONE”. My family of 4 fit comfortably inside the Mirage with a stroller in the trunk, ample space for groceries and the babies loved jamming to Apple Music at full volume (dancing kids *shrugs*). I could easily imagine college aged me, driving this car around full of friends and with a $17,000 starting price point for the SE version, it makes it an amazing first car for parents shopping for their teens (if parents still do that). Active stability control, rearview camera and enhanced visibility are just some of the amazing safety features that the Mirage are equipped with making it an amazing car for first time drivers/car buyers.
In short, if you need a vehicle at an affordable price, equipped with amazing safety features, that doesn’t lack the things you love like Bluetooth capability, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the 2018 Mirage G4 SE is a fit for you. To check out more features visit Mitsubishi’s website here.
Have you ever driven the Mirage? What are some of your must have features in a vehicle? Leave a comment below! xoxo
My family and I were invited to attend the 8th Annual New York Baby Show on behalf of MomTrends. All opinions expressed belong to me.
If you read my post from last year, you know that the New York Baby Show is the biggest baby show in the country hosting over 150 exhibitors catering to new and expecting families. Soooo much happened this year the day of the New York baby show that I ALMOST didn’t make it. I pressed my way through car trouble, torrential rain, a croupy 10 month old and an extremely over tired toddler to check out as much of the exhibitors as I can and I’m excited to bring our TOP 3 Items from the show to you!
bloom – Alma Mini Crib
I was fascinated with the bloom’s Alma Mini Crib IMMEDIATELY. Made from solid wood and coming in a variety of colors, the Alma Mini Crib is a super practical crib solution especially for city life. The crib folds and unfolds easily for easy transport and storage. I secretly considered getting this crib for Nana’s house but Zayn is such an active kid and follows his big brother constantly that I feel like he wouldn’t get that much more use out of it. Check out more on the Alma Mini Crib here.
Chicco – Bravofor2 Double Stroller
I’m on the lookout for a sit-n-stand stroller even though James thinks we don’t need one. I’m just thinking about how summer is coming, we’re going to be spending way more time outside and RJs little toddler legs are going to be getting tired. The Chicco Bravofor2 initially caught my eye because it wasn’t big or bulky. With a cute modern design and the ability for your big kid to choose how they want to ride, the Chicco was definitely winning me over. The easy one hand fold had me sold. I’m lucky if I have ONE hand available on outings I can’t deal with not being able to function . Check out all the great features of the Bravofor2 here.
PRIMO – The 2-in-1 Smart Voyager
One of the last stops we made was PRIMO. I was really excited about the PRIMO LapBaby but then it came time to strap Zayn in, he was too big :(. We further decided based on his size, age and how grabby he is that he wasn’t a good fit for that product anyway, but it definitely would’ve came in handy when he was younger! PRIMO also had the 2–in-1 Smart Voyager on display and this highchair/swing combo I LOVED! It only took about 30 seconds to convert from a swing (controllable entirely by phone) to a fully functional high chair and back again. The swing has awesome features like Automatic Cry Activation, 8 swing speeds, and can be connected via Bluetooth. For more information on the Smart Voyager feel free to check out PRIMO’s website here.
All in all, the New York Baby Show didn’t disappoint and I’m glad we pushed through and made it. I can’t wait to go next year (but I’m highly considering making it a solo trip) to see what new products will be out. I can’t believe by then I’ll have two toddlers! Eek!
Did you stop by the New York Baby Show? What were your favorite products? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
If you know me you probably rolled your eyes and was like Tanay.. you have a man WTH are you talking about. Listen, when I file taxes I still have to check single so I qualify to write this post, ok! If wedding season makes you want to A) Throat punch anyone who posts about love on your timeline or B) Burst into tears because you can’t for the life of you figure your own life out then, this post is for you sis!
With all the excitement about the Royal Wedding that just passed among the multiple other weddings I have to attend coming up I am just about ready to lose my mind. Don’t get me wrong, I love all things LOVE. Weddings, fairytales, the idea of happily ever after… those are all MY THING. I am a hopeless romantic through and through. But I’m just honestly over here hanging out in wedding limbo, trying to find things to occupy my time so I don’t end up on SNAPPED! before I’m actually a wife. I’m still here, so I’m about to tell you some of the things I do that help me when I’m starting to feel wedding woes.
//Get A Hobby//
That means one that doesn’t include scrolling social media because honestly, as a female we can easily find ourselves sinking down the “woe is me” rabbit hole in 2.5 seconds and then 3 hours later we’re trying to figure out why we’re still on the couch, scrolling iG, and we know the entire dating history of someone we never even met. No? Just me? Don’t lie! Get out and do something besides tweeting and snapping. Occupy your mind! Something as simple as reading a book is an amazing distraction. It keeps me off my phone and I’m learning new stuff. It’s a win-win situation.
//Get A Girlfriend//
It’s not what it sounds like. But your girl friends are (or should be) everything! Get you a friend that will show up when you need it and can lift you up mentally. Surround yourself with positive energy and good vibes. When you vibrate on a higher frequency then you attract more positive and abundance. Sometimes you need someone to put on Nice for What, hype you up & remind you that there’s more important sh*t to worry about.
//Live in the Moment//
Sometimes that is way easier said than done, I feel you. But trust when I say you will be way happier thinking about the now than obsessing over the future. There is so much joy in the now. Focus on the things that make you happy and keep those in the forefront of your mind. Positive attracts positive. Gratitude attracts more things to be grateful about. Trust me.
Because no one can love you better. Don’t ever forget that you’re bomb as hell, you’re hair is on fleek and your melanin pops severely! Confidence is one of the most attractive personality traits, so never forget that you slay! No one can ever validate that for you more than yourself.
This whole post probably rings cliche AF, but I’m so positive that I cannot be the only one that needs these reminders. And if all else fails and you find yourself wallowing in the wedding season woes, don’t forget that most weddings have an open bar! 😉
