The One City I’m Looking Forward to in 2019 – #Aladdin

I’m a millennial. I have all the big wanderlust dreams and I’d love nothing more than to drop everything at a moments notice and take flight. I can’t wait to give my children the travel experiences I never had and show them the world in a whole new way. That being said, we thankfully have some travel plans this year.

In a little over a week I’ll be headed to the Courage to Earn More Retreat in the Bay Area! I’m hype about it for so many reasons, and I’ll be sharing my thoughts real soon. We also made some plans for both of the boys birthdays later this year. RJ is turning 5 and I can’t believe it! That’s a whole separate emotional, time is going by so fast icantbelievethisismylife post. Of all the plans I hope to see this year I’m personally biased. I definitely have somewhere I’m looking forward to visiting the most.

The Year Ahead: List of Disney Movies Coming in 2019

2018 was such an amazing year at the movies! We had Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet and Mary Poppins, not to mention Black Panther, Infinity War and Ant Man. So much of my time last year was spent at the movies, and I got the opportunity to take my children to the movies a lot too which actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. That said, 2018 was great but 2019 is going to be LIT! Disney has an awesome lineup of movies set to start being released in just a few short months and I already know we are going to be spending EVEN MORE time at the movies this year. Check out everything coming to you in 2019 from Disney/Marvel Studios below. Continue Reading →

5 Habits All Moms Need to Take With Them Into 2019

Happy New Year! I almost can’t believe I’m sitting here with you guys in 2019! The year flew by and it was definitely, a year! Last year I made a whole list of goals, that I provably revisited once or twice when I wasn’t resharing it with you guys and that… kinda sucks. This year I am focusing on creating better habits, versus sticking to specific resolutions and I figured I’d share a couple of mine that are related to motherhood. Here are a couple things we need to remember to do for ourselves and our families this year. Continue Reading →

Netflix is Making Sure Your Little One Isn’t Left Out of the NYE Celebration

2018 is coming to a close (can you believe that?) and Netflix is making sure that even our smallest littles are included in on the New Years Eve celebration! Apparently this is an annual thing, and I’m just now getting on it because my boys spend 95% of their tv time on Netflix now.

Netflix has released a series of short videos featuring characters from some of our favorite shows celebrating the beginning of a new year. If your kids are like mine, they’re always looking for a good reason to turn up, even if they don’t understand the holiday. The great thing about the countdown videos is, you don’t have to wait until midnight (or even close to) to watch them. The New Years Eve countdown is available to stream now and can be found simply by typing “countdown” in on your Netflix search. Continue Reading →

For The Procrastinator Mommy: Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide for Toddlers/Preschoolers

Disclaimer: Some* of the items included in this holiday gift guide were gifted to my family for their inclusion. Still, all recommendations come solely from me.

Christmas is less than two weeks away and I have to admit even though I always am mentally ready for it, I’m never ACTUALLY ready. Procrastination has always been my worst habit when it comes to pretty much everything and Christmas is no exception every year. I’m one of the people in the store the weekend before Christmas wondering why everyone else didn’t shop earlier so that my procrastinating behind can have more space in the aisles, and trying to figure out which one of my 108302 email addresses I haven’t used for a free trial of Amazon Prime yet (c’mon, you’re gonna act like you don’t do that?).

To top all of that off my kids are NOSY. I can’t open a closet door around here without their little nosy behinds running to see what I’m doing or getting so I tend to try to get their gifts at the last possible minute so that they don’t find them. So if you’re like me, I’m about to give you all the details on what’s hot this year for the littlest of littles in case you’re like me and you’ve waited until the last possible minute to try to figure out what you want to get these babies. 4 Reasons We Chose Reindeer in Here for Our Christmas Tradition

When I had RJ I COULD NOT WAIT for him to be old enough for Christmas traditions. Y’all know how I feel about Christmas, so I was excited to have a little person to share in the Christmas excitement with. I just knew it was going to be epic. Fast forward to when he was about two and I NEEDED an Elf on the Shelf. Daddy however, was not having it. The whole look and idea of the elf was deemed “creepy” and my little holiday dreams were shut down. Sadness. Until I had a chance to go to TTPM’s Holiday Showcase this year and meet Adam Reed, creator of Reindeer in Here.

If you aren’t familiar with Reindeer in Here, it was written by a father who (just like me) wanted to create a positive Christmas tradition with his family. The whole concept of reindeer in here promotes uniqueness and individuality, embracing the concept that everyone is different. On top of that, it is a much less creepy and stress free tradition you can start with your little ones. I’m about to give you all the reasons we chose to embrace Reindeer in Here over our little elf friend.

Honestly, ain’t nobody got time for that.

And by that I mean the elf shenanigans. I am team #givemelesswork and the Elf on a Shelf idea is exhausting to me. I’m almost positive I would give up halfway through the nightly moves and then my kids would be left to wonder what happened to the elf, if it went back to the North Pole and if Christmas is ruined.

It gives my children something to look forward to

Reindeer in here makes connecting with Santa Claus essentially, your children’s job. There is no creepy “spying for Santa”, and your children do all the work of telling their Reindeer there biggest Christmas wishes so that he/she can deliver them to Santa every night. So much more positive and way more cuddly.

There is no ‘No Touch’ rule

With Elf on a Shelf the children aren’t allowed to touch the elf or it loses it’s Christmas magic. SOOOOOOO I don’t know about your kids but these, the magic would be lost day 1. RJ would think it was hilarious, I would be angry and the tradition would be down the drain. Reindeer in here encourages children to show their reindeer something new every morning and the reindeer takes all the notes back to Santa at night.

There is a positive story behind the reindeer

Like our elfy friend, reindeer in here comes with a book so you can share with your kids the magical story behind Santa’s favorite helper. I won’t tell you guys the whole story but it is super cute, embraces the idea that being different is beautiful and at the end you get to give name your reindeer. My boys loved that part.

All in all, reindeer in here was clearly made by a parent FOR parents. It makes Christmas magical without the stress of an extra thing to remember at night and for me that is a HUGE plus. We’re loving ‘Nick’ and RJ has shared so many wishes with him I stopped counting. I’m glad we have a new tradition that everyone loves and creeps no one out haha.

So what say you? Do you participate in Elf on a Shelf? Have you heard of Reindeer in Here? What are some of your holiday traditions?

I’m Sick of ‘Parent Twitter’

And I know I’ll probably be banished to some lonely corner of the Twitterverse where I’ll be slowly rocking back and forth and holding myself alone but, I could care less at this point. I meant it last night when it first came to mind and I mean it now as I’m typing this post. I hate parent twitter. Not to be confused with just parents on twitter. I’m talking about the very specific group of tweeters, you know who they are.

And there are are so many different corners of the Twitterwebs so I’m sure I’ll find another group to partake in (#BlackTwitter never fails me), but I felt like the mom life corner was supposed to be my thing. Nah, it ain’t. If you search any type of parenting hashtag on twitter you’ll be sure to find all of these witty tweets. Parents tweeting about their numbered children and the snarky or clever thing they’ve said that millisecond, all in the name of RTs and favorites. Can we be honest? You nor your kid are that funny ALL day. Someone else definitely has copied a meme I’ve seen on Facebook and used it as their own tweet, only to get 749201 comments about how funny or clever they are like plagiarism isn’t taught in elementary school anymore. WHY ARE YALL LIKE THIS?!

Last night while I showered and washed my hair my 1 year old stood outside the door screeching at the top of his lungs the entirety of said shower. My emotions teetered between guilt and annoyanc and I thought about reaching out to the parent posse to see who could relate. Instead I changed my mind because, it wasn’t funny, or sarcastic or witty and I felt pretty confident that though I knew someone would be able to relate… my tweet would just sink into the abyss of things forgotten. No one interacts for realness!! Where are the parents that are living REAL life and want to interact?! Those are the people I’m looking for.

Meanwhile you can miss me with the clever anecdotes about 4 pretending to sip your peppermint mocha this morning. I haven’t even had the chance to brush my teeth yet. But y’all are gonna get ALL this venting.

Netflix Original Series ‘Motown Magic’ is a Must Watch for The Whole Family

Image via Netflix

I’m probably late to the game, but I just found out about Netflix original series Motown Magic. We were actually scrolling Netflix on Saturday night looking for something to watch to avoid watching Bo on the Go and Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas for the 808080th time that day. When James showed me Motown Magic I was immediately skeptical. I’m going to admit I never heard of Beat Bugs or Josh Wakely prior to this show, so I had no background to go off of. We showed RJ and his immediate response was “no I don’t wanna watch that.” LOL. We didn’t give him a choice, and within the first episode I was SO GLAD I didn’t.

** Mild episode one spoilers ahead**

Motown Magic follows the story of Ben, an 8 year old who lives in the city of “Motown”, who uses a paintbrush to make the street art in his neighborhood come to life. When the theme song started during episode one, we immediately got excited, The Jackson 5’s ABC is the theme song sung by 11 year old Zacary James. Episode one introduces us to Ben and his extremely talented family living in the city of Motown. Everyone in his family seems to know what their “thing” is but Ben doesn’t believe he has talent.

Episode one is pretty much when you realize the show is LIT. Each episode is inspired by a classic Motown song with a contemporary take. The song fits in with the theme of the episode and there is a lesson learned in every one. Even better for little preschool attention spans, each episode is only between 12 and 15 minutes long with the exception of episode one. By the second episode RJ and Zayn were dancing and singing (along with me and their dad) and all signs of “I don’t want to watch that” had left the building. A few more episodes in and my 4 year old started seeing himself in Motown. There was “Mommy! Ben looks like me!” and “Mommy, Ella has hair just like you!”. You cannot convince me that representation doesn’t matter to kids.

It’s Tuesday morning now and we’ve watched every episode of Motown Magic AT least once already and we’re on round 2. I’m pretty sure we’re going to check out Beat Bugs next since we’re late to that party as well, but I’m thankful Josh Wakely created a show where my baby can see himself, and we can all sing and dance to songs even my parents and grandparents love. It’s an amazing break from Baby Shark!

Have you watched Motown Magic yet with your little ones? Check out the trailer below, it’s easy as 123!

With Wreck it Ralph 2 premiering in theaters everywhere today, Ralph toys are definitely going to be popular this holiday season. Stocking stuffers for kids are sort of a no-brainer these days because the toy unboxing craze is HUGE. We had the opportunity to screen Wreck it Ralph in advance earlier this week, so when RJ had the chance to open these power pacs he was HYPE. The movie is amazing, there are so many lessons and if you’ve never seen a Wreck it Ralph you will fall in LOVE with the characters. Check out RJs unboxing video and reactions below, this was his first time and he was super excited!

As you can see, he also loves the Oh My Disney Power Pac Display, despite it being a “princess castle.” I love the innocence of childhood, and honestly who could resist Oh my Disney?! These collectible figures and others from Bandai’s Wreck it Ralph 2 line of toys can be purchased on Amazon, Target and Gamestop. Will you be checking them out this holiday season?
