Thank you so much to Cirque Du Soleil for providing complimentary admission to their opening night of TORUK – The First Flight in NYC. As always, all opinions expressed here are my own.
Wednesday my boyfriend and I got a chance to go out on a much needed date night. I was given tickets to attend TORUK on their opening night at the Barclays center and I was hype pretty much ALL WEEK to go. When my boyfriend first say an advertisement for this performance he told me he wanted to go so I had been pretty much planning this night since June.
I hadnt seen my tickets beforehand, so I wasn’t sure what to expect but when I got there I was thrilled that we got great seats. We were in the 13th row and I’m pretty sure this is the closest I’ve ever sat at any live show.
So in case you’re wondering, TORUK – The First Flight is inspired by James Cameron’s AVATAR. The story takes place thousands of years prior to the movie and tells a tale of two boys who are just reaching adulthood and take matters into their own hands when a prophecy reveals a threat to the Sacred Tree of Souls. The two young men journey out on a quest to save the Na’vi from this natural disaster.
The visuals in this performance were amazing and I was so excited to be up front to be able to see the details. I loved everything about this performance. My first Cirque show was Zarkana, which wasn’t narrated in English and I found a little harder to follow. I pretty much had no idea what was going on in that story but the stunts and visuals were still interesting. I loved that TORUK was narrated in English and I’m pretty sure even if you’re unfamiliar with the movie AVATAR you can still enjoy the storyline. The story was easy to follow and the visuals went perfect along with it.
TORUK is showing at the Barclays in NYC for 3 more nights before moving to the Prudential Center in New Jersey. For ticketing information visit https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/toruk.
